Professor Revil took a deep breath before turning around, a forced smile on her face. In a nearly sickly sweet voice-There were so many coming today!-She said, "Isn't that nice? Which one would you like? Mind you, you aren't the first today, so I might not have the one you want right now."

"Oh," Mel looked upset. She should have been here earlier. "Well, I don't really want bulbasaur, because everyone expects me to get a bulbasaur. And I don't think I could handle the later evolutions of charmander, so that only leaves squirtle."
She felt that this was rather typical of her. Eliminate what wasn't true and then you recieved the lack-luster truth.

For once Professor Revil's smile almost looked genuine. Almost. "Ah, as it happens no one has claimed Squirtle. Rather odd-But no matter. Now then..." Here her voice turned crisp and professional-like, as she grabbed five empty pokeballs, a pokedex, and the pokeball holding Squirtle and shoved the entire set into Mel's arms. "Out and onto your journey, great wishes and all that." Looking conspiratal, she stage-whispered, "Ah, the Squirtle happens to have a slight problem by the way. Last time I checked, it was afraid of water. You might want to break that fear. Now then, shoo. I've work to do...Order more starters..." Her voice faded to a mumble as she disapeared into a back room, leaving Mel to leave and find the door on her own.

((BTW, can pokemon talk here, or not?))
"Afriad of water?" Mel said to herself.
Just what had she gotten into? She knew she should have asked for a bulbasaur. Releasing her pokemon she looked at the blue turtle. "Um hi, what would you like to be called?" she asked, as if the pokemon would answer.
Her squirtle shrugged, honestly, he didn't care. He had hoped to stay in the lab until he was level six and then not be forced to go with a trainer who would inevitably use him as a surfing animal. He didn't think highly of being used basically as a mule -- which was why he had developed his "aversion" to water. No trainer, after all, would want a useless squirtle.
Mel, in the meantime was not encouraged by her starter's silence. "Er, I'll call you Lapis," she decided, before heading out to Route One, squirtl in reluctant tow.

((Hm. They can speak to each other, but not to trainer's. Of course, you can get fairly creative in making them converse with trainer's. Most of 'em can draw after all. XD))
