Mel's heart was racing. This was exciting, but scary, too. Those birds in tandem had just lowered both Lapis' attack and defense. His stats would be in taters if she didn't end it quickly. Mel also had to choose between two targets for her squirtle to attack, but since one was already airborn she decided to leave that one for now.
"Lapis, tackle the one who just growled at you. With that tail whip he's taken, you'll have a better chance of beating him!" Mel exclaimed, as she began to rumage around in her pack for her pokedex. Perhaps there was some information that she could use to her advantage.

Of course, if she were to read the pokedex, she would find that spearow didn't learn a leer attack until level seven, and that entire flocks tended to defend their fallen companions, if not tend to them. Which was why Micheal was becoming increasingly worried about the flock heading their way, as they seemed to be picking up on the distressed calls of their companions, and their flight path was becoming more straight foward and quicker. "Uh...Mel...Spearow Flock closing in..."
The tackled spearow on the ground shuddered with the force of the tackle, giving an evil glare at Lapis-Not a leer, for this spearow wasn't strong enough to have learned that attack, and attempted to take flight again without retalation. However, its attempt failed, as it was now to weak to leave the ground.
This angered the spearow still in flight, and it dived down in a fierce peck attack at Lapis.

From behind another trainer had appeared, he had veen following the party of 2 fo sometime now, he was a bit lost in reaching the town and he had overheard eariler from these 2 that they were headed there which resulted to him following them.
Now he merely watched from the background as his charmander looked at the battly worried for the girl trainer "Char Char Char"He said to the boy with a worried face but Blake who couldn't understand the pokemon was a little clueless but he did catch the worried look of the charmander, "It not for us to decide if we should get involved"He said to the charmander calmly.

"Lapis, pokemon coming in behind you, tail whip!" Mel exclaimed, as she scanned the pokedex data, and then felt around in her pack once more.
Lapis pivoted on one foot to the right. He was beginning to think that all he did was spinning around for tail whips. However, he couldn't stop a satisfied smile when he fet his tail connect solidly with the spearow. There was pain as the hooked beak scored a line on his shell, but that was fleeting as his tail whip spun him out of the way.
"Got it!" Mel exclaimed, coming up with a pokeball. "I think I have a plan for that spearow flock, mister. Do you have any food on you?"
Without waiting for a reply she lobbed the pokeball at the grounded spearow.
"Look," she said as the pokeball soared through the air, "I'm going to try to catch this spearow for you, sir. Then when you let it out of it's pokeball, and feed it, it should take a liking to you, and perhaps call its freinds off. The spearow wouldn't isten to Lapis, but they might listen to another spearow. Again, if this doesn't work, we need to run."

The man (being as he was wearing an apron and all) looked slight indignant, as if he thought Mel should have known that he had food with him. Not that he had ever mentioned working in a little restuarant in a corner of the pokemart. "Of course I have food on me." The idea that if she caught it for him, meant that he would finally have a pokemon (And a tough one to!) didn't occur to him as of yet, as he was busy digging around in his apron pockets for food, and soon was triumphant in holding up some sort of food. It wasn't sure what, being as it was simply in an unmarked baggy, but he seemed to know what it was. "Poke-food."
The flock of spearow seemed to make up it's mind at that point, as it suddenly formed into a v-formation and started straight towards them...
And yes! The pokeball stopped rocking, just as the still-fighting spearow took to the air to avoid the nasty tail of the other squirtle, and rauciously call to urge his fellows on, taking a safe perch on the branch of a tree nearby.

"Okay, then!" Mel exclaimed reaching down and scooping up the pokeball. "Lapis, come closer to me! Sir, when I let this spearow out you have to be the first thing it sees."
She had some hazy recollection of a talk that her mother had once given her on impressing bird pokemon. They saw you and you had food and therefore you must be their parents or something. Mel wasn't quite certain how it all worked, and had completely forgotten that it was baby bird pokemon that he mother had been talking about, but desperate times called for desperate measures.
"Anyway, feed it, and make friends fast, and then ask it to call off the flock," Mel continued. "Asking is very important. Politeness will get you anywhere," she quoted her older sister.
At her feet Lapis snorted in derision. "Squir squirt, tle squir, (Not with spearow it doesn't,)" however, Mel, not understanding what he had to say, ignored him.

Micheal of course, had never heard anything about this so he didn't contradict her. And even if he had, it was the only course of action they had so far, and he could pick out the individual birds now. Which wasn't good. Nodding he said, "Okay."

Mel released the spearow and then stepped smartly back to let the impression, hopefully, happen. She looked at Lapis. and then at the approaching birds and gulped. "I don't suppose there's any way that you coud learn surf or hydrocannon really quickly is there?"

"So your going to try to defeat all those spearows?"Blakle said as he approuched the couple, looking at micheal, "I don't think that the other spearow's would listen to the one you have, they only take orders from higher ranking pokemon, but if they do listen to that one I'd be surprised.", he gave a little snicker but watched in interest as the spearow flock grew larger by the second.
Grad hid his tail behind him as he saw the squirtle, he knew that if his tail was put out he'd faint. He hid shyly behind Blake making sure that the squirtle wouldn't be able to hit his tail.

"Squirt squir squir, le tle, (Hey look, if your human has nothing better to do with his time other than be arrogant and snotty, I suggest that the two of you go somewhere else,)" Lapis said angrily to Grad, glaring at the charmander's trainer.
Mel went pink, and tightened her jaw as she turned to face Blake, not liking his snicker. "Look!" she exclaimed. "My plan may not work, but at least I have one. And I'm not going to stand around acting all su-super-er -- acting better than eveyone else when I haven't done anything but make snippy remarks! You're so smart, either come up with a better plan, or help me and Lapis give everyone enough time to run for cover if my plan doesn't work."
"Squr squirtle, (That's my girl,)" Lapis said supportively.

"Alright alright"Blake said backing away,"you don't have to be angry or anything." He looked at the flock of spearows again, a small glint appeared in his eye. "Here's an idea, why don't you just attack the leader? That way if the leader flies away the whole flock would"Blake said as he pointed at the flock and sure enough a fearow was leading the whole flock.

It was at this point in time that Micheal was feeding the spearow, and apparantly quite happily carrying on a conversation, that he only understood half of. The two seemed to get along perfectly fine, except for one small detail-The spearow showed no interest in curbing the attack of the entire flock, and the other one was still calling out rauciosly, and perched in a tree nearby.
Hearing Blake's plan, Micheal stood up rather hurredly, leaving the bird food on the ground for the spearow. "What??? Are you trying to commit suicide?"

"Of course not"Blake said turning to Micheal, "just think about it if the leader of that flock would think that there was a strong pokemon here, the leader would turn around" He continued ruffling his hair as he did. "It's just the same thing with her plan"He said pointing to Mel "it's either attack head on or stay defensive."

"Well, it makes sense," Mel agreed. "But how do we get it so that only the fearow attacks us and not the rest of the flock? Do we call it names or something? We still don't have that many pokemon. I have a pidgey that is basically all knocked out, and Lapis has taken a lot of damage already, as has the spearow. Is your charmander in good shape? Or do you have a second pokemon of some kind?"

Micheal decided at this point in time to point something out that both of them were apparantly overseeing. "We could run for it. But anyways, besides that being the smartests course of action, do either of you know how strong a spearow has to be before it'll evolve? They aren't exactly weak pokemon. If they were, they wouldn't be leading a flock."
It looked like you only had a few seconds to figure out what to do, as the flock was all but overhead. In fact, the fearow's shadow was already beginning to cover the nearby tree the (now silent) other spearow had tooken perch in.
